Man what a night! Despite a catalogue of unrelated mishaps and general madness, the actual music part was great!
First we were due to be playing on the back of 2 curtain-siders in the main field. But the ole London commuters had clogged the bloody road up by leaving their cars there, so we couldn't get the trucks in. So onto Plan B and a marquee set-up pretty sharpish.
Then Drama crashes his car on the way to the gig! So he's stuck in Milton Keynes explaining roundabout etiquette to a Fiesta driver! He finally arrives 15 mins before show-time (as usual) and we have to go on after only a 5 minute sound check.
Meanwhile, the Police have been called about the general noise and music before we even go on - so we're just gonna make it worse!
Just 20 minutes into the set, the Environmental Health jobsworth lot arrive, responding to noise complaints. Some prickly little tosser tells us to turn it down and gets some collective crowd boos. 30 mins later they're back, telling us ther's a 10PM curfew and they'll pull the power because some twat in the middle distance can make out the sound. Remember, this is gig for a children's charity and we are playing free of charge! Unbelievable.
Anyway - three noise complaints, a staging nightmare and one car accident later, we played til bang on 10pm, so the show DID go on! Thanks to the crowd for the love, and well done to the band for delivering a great set despite all the hassle!
